During this course you will, among a broad range of learning objectives, understand in depth what Artivisim and Storytelling  is, how powerful it can be, how to use it and at the end become an Artivist yourself.

Our course “Teaching Artivism” does exactly that: Through artistic and philosophical know-how, participants will get the opportunity to utilize their creativity as a tool to inspire awareness and motivate genuine change in the world.

More information you may find in the document: Teaching Artivism Syllabus

Do you know what ARTIVISM is?

Artivism is a conscious combination of art and activism and is adopted to demonstrate a productive and value-loaded attitude to engage in social issues through art projects.

Artivism, a union of the terms art and activism, describes the unique approach to apply creative methods to make a non-violent yet ever so efficient political statement.

2023 marked the year of fundamental change of Amsterdam Pride.

Rather than 1 week full of activities, the Amsterdam Queer & Pride edition of 2023 consisted of 2 consecutive weeks of which the first week was organised by the new organisation, Queer Amsterdam, and the second week, by Stichting Pride Amsterdam.

The Amsterdam Queer Pride of 2023 marked a transformative and inclusive celebration that reverberated with the spirit of diversity and acceptance.

This annual event, known for its vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, took a bold step forward by embracing an even broader spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities. The festivities unfolded against a backdrop of community events, art events, and panel talks with the city streets adorned in a kaleidoscope of colors.
The organizers dedicated themselves to create a space where everyone, regardless of their background, could feel seen, heard, and celebrated.

Attendees experienced a rich tapestry of events that highlighted the intersections of various identities within the queer community, including:

  • the annual Pride Walk,
  • Black Pride,
  • sports events,
  • a sexworkers festival,
  • performances,
  • panel discussions

International Queer & Migrant Film Festival along with other festivals such as Transcreen, HoFF, Roze Filmdagen, Cinemasia and queer.red organised the Summer Queer Film program in cinema theaters all over Amsterdam. Also, several conferences took place in which civil society organisations from the national and international queer activism scenes were involved.

The two-week event ended with 80+ boats floating through the Prinsengracht during the characteristic Amsterdam Canal Parade. As the city embraced unity in diversity, the Amsterdam Queer Pride of 2023 became a beacon of hope and inspiration, fostering a sense of belonging that transcended boundaries and encouraged ongoing dialogue about the importance of acceptance and understanding. Amsterdam city council has vouched to continue facilitating the Queer & Pride events under the umbrella Amsterdam Queer & Pride for the year 2024 and beyond. Stichting art.1, one of the partners of the LGBTIQA!+ project, is one of the founding members of the new Amsterdam Queer & Pride.
